Biography: Peggy Ward-Smith, RN, PhD is an Associate Professor. She teaches in the graduate and doctoral programs. Her area of research interest is the concept of quality of life, how it is affected by medical treatment and the role that values plays in treatment decision making. The failure to assess individual values and incorporate this information into the healthcare plan may lead to protracted and unwanted treatment, which frustrates the patient, their family and the health care providers.
Dr. Ward-Smith’s research interest focuses on quality of life, specifically for those that have healthcare conditions that cannot be cured. Current research is exploring the link between personal distress, quality of life and healthcare decisions among veterans and how the American Heart Association’s Choose to Move program influences quality of life among plus size women.
