Karen Cox, RN, PhD - Assistant Dean for Clinical Partnerships
Phone: 816.234.3933 Email: kcox@cmh.org CV: CoxK.pdf Biography: Dr. Cox’s primary area of research is assessing and improving staff nurses’ perception of their work environment. Understanding nurse perceptions of basic work requirements (i.e. manager support, appropriate workload, etc.) can be a fundamental prerequisite to addressing higher-level needs of nurses that ultimately lead to improved outcomes. The instrument Dr. Cox developed, the Individual Workload Perception Scale – Revised (IWPS-R), has been validated to measure Manager Support, Peer support, Unit Support, Workload, Intent to Stay and Overall Nurse Satisfaction. Once those needs have been met, the higher level needs can be addressed. This work supports the Magnet recognition approach to ensure a professional practice environment.
