Nurse Educator Certificate Program

This post-masters professional certificate program will prepare nurse educators to employ cutting edge teaching strategies in the didactic and clinical setting, synthesize teaching-learning theories, and acquire skills in curriculum development.  Clinical Practicum objectives include the student’s ability to provide didactic and clinical instruction within the academic setting. Hands on experience in objective writing, teaching, clinical instructing, test writing and student management are offered through educational experiences provided by master educators.

Completion of the program meets the educational requirements to be eligible for the NLN CNE Certification Exam . There are four courses required for the program with a total of 12 credit hours.  All courses must be completed within 3 years. Students are responsible for arranging their clinical preceptor and site for the Practicum course. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain clinical eligibility to practice during the program. It is recommended that the student become comfortable in the clinical setting in preparation for Practicum.

Admission Criteria into the Post-Master’s Nurse Educator Certificate Program are:

  • M.S.N. from an accredited nursing program
  • Submission of current resume or curricula vitae
  • Copy of current licensure as a registered nurse with licensure in the jurisdiction where clinical study is to be conducted
  • Complete UMKC application, MSN Supplement Form with required documentation, submission of required documentation noted above
