- Dr. Jane Peterson has been accepted into the 2008 Advanced Training Institute in Health Behavior Theory Course, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research.
- Dr. Jane Peterson was a semi-finalist in the Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Scholar Class of 2008.
Dr. Peggy Ward-Smith
- Dr. Peggy Ward-Smith’s presentation “The Impact of Coping Skills on Quality of Life for the Adolescent with Cancer” has been accepted as a podium presentation at the 10 th World Congress of Psycho-Oncology.
Drs. Marco Brotto and Tina Hines
- Drs. Brotto and Hines have combined forces with two investigators from the School of Medicine to launch the Muscle Biology Research Group (MUBIG). A recent symposium was attended by 60 researchers from UMKC, KUMed and KU Lawrence.

Student Amalia Almeida, along with Maithe Enriquez and Rose Farnan , presented the “Impact of a Bilingual/BiculturalCare Team on Patient Outcomes” at the Association of Nursesin AIDS Care (ANAC) conference last year in Orlando, Fla. Atthe same conference, students Rosa Fleytas and Jessica Martin presented “Engaging Low Acculturated Latinas Living withHIV/AIDS in Research: Lessons Learned from the MAMASStudy” with Maithe Enriquez and Liza Rodriguez.
Ph.D. student Neal Rosenburg’s poster, “Caring: Breaking the Barriers of HIV-Related Stigma,” was accepted for a poster presentation at the International Association of Human Caring in Chapel Hill, N.C. He has also been selected to participate in the SOAR program and will travel to South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. He began the mentoring program in April.
Ph.D. students Sarah Llanque and Nikki Yarbrough were selected as National Coalition of Ethnic Minority NurseAssociation (NECMNA) Mentees for ‘08.
Ph.D. student Cristy Roberts’ article, “Microbial Contamination of Enteral Feeding Sets Used in the Home of Pediatric Patients,” was accepted for publication in the February issue of Nutrition in Clinical Practice.
D.N.P. student Susan Kimble was selected as one of two award recipients of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and Sanofi-Aventis US 2007 N.P. Doctoral Education Scholarship.
B.S.N. students Sarah Stanley, Christa Gilberts, Stephanie Stephens and Brittney Hazley presented a program onHealthy Choices for Pregnant Women, and Cheryl Arms, Barb Le Grande, Jennifer Anderson and Nicole Becker presenteda program on Health Education for the Homeless, at the 21 stAnnual MU Student Showcase at the Missouri state capital.
