Student Life

The UMKC School of Nursing is the place to turn a job in nursing into a career, and student life activities are an important part of the UMKC experience. Whether on the Hospital Hill campus near Crown Center or on the main campus near the Country Club Plaza shopping and arts district, students at the School of Nursing can become involved in student life on many levels.

More than 200 student organizations offer recreational, social and academic enrichment along with the University's computer labs, libraries and recreation facilities. The UMKC School of Nursing offers the Nursing Student Council and the Lambda Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, the only international nursing honor society. A well-equipped computer lab and reading areas make the School of Nursing a welcome place to learn and study. Students are in close proximity to the Health Sciences library at the School of Medicine and the Health Sciences Bookstore at the School of Dentistry.

The University Center - on the main campus - is a hub for a bookstore, cafeteria, a computer lab and a barber shop. Adjacent to the University Center, students have free access to Swinney Recreation Center - a top-notch exercise and sports facility complete with indoor and outdoor tracks, swimming pool, regulation ball courts, free weights and exercise equipment.

UMKC also is host to a 16-sport Division I NCAA sports program, with athletic events played throughout the year across the metro area. Greek life, student publications, libraries, concerts, lectures, the Gallery of Art and the national champion debate team all combine to make UMKC an urban university with a vibrant campus life.
